Solar Solutions for Load Shedding

solar installation

We’re living in a country where electricity load shedding is prevalent and a reality that is going to be part of our lives for a long time. Until the electricity shortage can be managed by the powers that be, we all have to make arrangement to live with it or to make alternative arrangements.

The one alternative that is a good way to get off the electrical grid is solar power. Solar power solutions have become more advanced over the recent years because the demand for alternative power solutions has increased. People need to find solutions that will allow them to continue with their daily activities both at work and at home.

Solar panels can be added to your home or work place on the roof of the building so that it can catch as much sunlight as possible. With the fact that we live in a country that is sunny most of the year this is a good alternative energy solution. You can choose how many solar panels to add to the building depending on your budget. The number of solar panels will also depend on the amount of energy you need to power the house. If you’re running a number of appliances as well as lights, then you must calculate the wattage needed to power these items.

You will also have to decide on whether you want to have the building powered completely by the solar panels or whether you want to be partially on the electrical grid. If you are going the complete solar energy route then you will need to make sure that you have sufficient batteries to capture the energy that is gathered from the sun so that it can store it for future use. Although in many cases, even when there is no sunshine some sun rays do still make it through the clouds to power the solar panels. As a backup it is good practice to store the energy in batteries for occasions when there is no sunlight to gather the energy.

Load shedding is going to be part of our lives for more than a year because there are not enough resources available to power the country currently. However, it is good to know that there is another solution. Now, the cost of installation and setting up of the solar panels and integrating it into your building can be a bit high but if you look at the bigger picture there are great benefits. You can get assistance with this at a building materials supplier store. You will not have to rely on the national electricity grid so when load shedding hits you can still go on with your life as usual. After the initial cost of installation you don’t have to pay a monthly fee for the usage of the energy. It is supplied by the sun which is free. You can say goodbye to that monthly bill. Even if you subsidise half of the electricity with the solar power, you can still gain an advantage by being able to continue during load shedding and not having to foot the full cost of a monthly electrical bill.
